Richard's social, outgoing and lively personality makes people feel relaxed, enjoy themselves and helps to capture the true inner spirit. Focussing on fun and interaction as a way to dramatise character in individuals, families and relationships. Through planning shoots and idea generation with creative editing, Richard experimented with the boundaries of visual expression to create images that uniquely express who people are and how they feel. Richard loves to capture the moment and continuously proves why you should hire a professional, not a button pusher!
graphic design including and not limited to corporate identity, marketing and book design. Richard works well as a typographer utilising crisp lines, shapes, white spaces, understands colour, working with imagery and often coordinates in a stylish and unexpected fashion. When it comes to document design, Richard utilses his approach to constants and variables. Little of Richard's capabilities are represented here as work has been lost due to an unfortunate number of hard drive failures.
web design is a new area for Richard but he is learning and developing very fast. Richard's aim is to communicate information in easily accessible methods. Richard enjoys learning and using new technology. He is focused on making things look stylish yet intuitive. He experiments with layout and functionality whilst retaining a high standard of content. travel writing to Richard is as enjoyable to wright as others find to read. Richard enjoys building a sense of place and is very visual. He aims to add atmosphere, include culture, history, but most importantly to inspire his readers. He wants his readers to want to be there. He likes words to be entertaining, creating a desire to read more and uses a varied vocabulary to add positivity. Richard has written several location centered pieces for magazines, has started writing a novel involving travelling Europe, romance and coming of age. A recent road trip along California's Pacific Coastal Highway is on its way in the form of a website and includes 360vrs and panoramic photography
video production projects have included documentary, nature and out on location, artist showcase, special effect experiments and visual projections in night clubs and music videos. Richard knows how to cut those edits tight and with the music in a way that lifts the viewer's attention, can create long and working fades to exemplify dynamic elegance and is extremely focused whilst filming. This includes staying outside for far too long doing timelapse, to the extent of being nearly hyperthermic, on quite a few occassions!
Background
Richard grew up in rural England which perhaps explains his love of cosmopolitan urban living! His work has taken him around the world and it is his desire to take on new experiences that has had a crucial effect on his style. Richard's early years involved experimenting with technology and techniques. His creative intrigue focused on working out what could be done with the result of purposely pressing the wrong buttons. Richard is a lover of technology and enjoys pushing technology to the limts. The focus is now developing ideas and looking at how pressing those wrong buttons can be applied.
Visual Style
Richard's personal style includes patterns and symetry. This grew from an interest in the patterns of nature's organisms. He likes to use purity and although has at times enjoyed working as a "Maximalist" (the opposite to "Minimalism" although they work on the same principles) likes to take away rather than to add as the solution. This isnt just visually.
Richard's love of electronic music created a desire to coordinate images in the same way, with layers and patterns. This led to an interest of creating the "hyper-real" which as a futuristic resemblance. He likes to break images down to their minimal form, apply effects then build them back up by overlaying.
Key words used to describe his work include sensuality, elemental deconstruction, with organic, electronic and, technological forms. He is interested in the continuation beyond what the eye can see and overlaying what already exists. This means images can have a very transitional and sensuous feel. The images are constructed with form, strong composition and with the use of masking to contain elements of imagery while actually suggesting something else.
