We only took a simple drive through Santa Cruz but like everywhere else, we wish we had longer! So what can I say about SC? Well there are lots of little beaches and small coves that create a more intimate beach experience. Like many places in California, surfing is popular and on an early Saturday morning on a larger beach, we were astonished to see about 50-100 surfers waiting to catch waves.
The city is small and looked like it offered a nice community. The great outdoors are just on the outside of town. We enjoyed watching the mist masking the hills as we had seen elsewhere on our road trip. The city looked reasonably clean but I am not sure if there would be enough here to warrant making a trip.
We stopped to get some gas, but more importantly to get the car washed. We had about 700miles of bug splat and dust on all sides of the car and touching the body work had become repulsive about 300miles ago. You know you are in America when even the robot car wash offers you an upgrade! The road demon certainly looked a beauty we could now take photographs through the windscreen/shield with less 6legged obstructions.
